It’s all about fast and simple when it comes to posting to social media, so here are some quick Twitter tips.
1. Interact on Twitter with others. Twitter is one of the easiest and quickest ways to make a connection with people. You have 140 characters to get your question or statement out there and the easiest way to do it is to compliment someone on a post or tweet that they have created.
2. There are two major symbols that you need to know with Twitter. You’ll need to use @ before someone’s name and the # sound before a topic or category. The majority of the time the # symbol is used to track a particular conversation, such as a Twitter party or sponsored tweet.
3. Twitter Parties are the bomb dot com. A lot of brands will host a Twitter party and use a hashtag (#) to help keep track of the conversation. You’ll need to put the hashtag category into the search portion of twitter so that you can follow the conversation and interact easily. Twitter parties are a great way to interact with other bloggers as well as brands. The parties are usually scheduled for a particular day and time so you’d need to find out about the party from the host or hostess.
4. A quick question on Twitter can easily spark your creative juices. I’ve had ideas for posts and needed a little added spark for them so I’ve posted questions on Twitter to get responses. For example, for my Fall Tasting Party, I posed the question “What is the first appetizer that pops into your head when you think of Fall?” The number one response was apple pie, which gave birth to my Mini Apple Pies.
5. RT is your friend! If you’re new to Twitter, you have no idea what RT means. It stands for ReTweet and takes place when someone else shares your tweet to their audience. A retweet of a tweet gives the tweet new life and quite possibly an entirely new audience.
6. The @ symbol makes it super easy to know who is talking about you and when. If I was to share a tweet about my fabulous cohost for Whimsy Wednesdays, Kelly from Smart School {House}, the tweet might look like “Have you seen the gorgeous flameless rose tea lights from @SmartSchoolHous http://www.smartschoolhouse.com/2013/01/diy-flameless-rose-tea-lights.html” Kelly would know that I posted this tweet by checking her connect or @ section within Twitter. She would then RT this post to her audience so that it would receive a second exposure.
7. Link your other social media outlets. Your posting on other social networks. Why not have it so that when you do it sends out a tweet as well? This is why in my 8 Tips for Optimizing Pinterest I recommended including your twitter handle in the title of your picture. The twitter button is right there to be clicked and like number 6 stated, you want to know when others are talking about you.
8. Keep your avatar and profile info consistent to your other social media outlets. The picture or avatar in Twitter is very small so it’s important to keep it consistent. All of my social media outlets have the same picture on them (G+, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, StumbleUpon, etc). I want people to quickly recognize that it’s me. I think it’s important to have that same picture on your blog as well. Keep it consistent!

These are all great! I only recently started putting my Twitter handle on my pics for pins.
Once someone is comfortable with Twitter, I’d recommend using HootSuite to manage your social media accounts. Makes things so much easier.
I definitely agree with using hootsuite. I need to start to get better about scheduling my social media.
I’m on Twitter, but just can’t grasp it. I bet my problem is I don’t get there often enough, and I’m still not sure how to/what to tweet. I have so much else to do, I forget about this social spot.

Thanks so much Deborah. It’s all about playing around with it to become more comfortable. Social media can get overwhelming though so try to focus on the biggest bang for your buck, which are G+ and Pinterest (in my opinion).
