DIY Christmas Decorations: Marquee Star

December 18, 2014 by Jenny Melrose

Hello The NY  Melrose Family readers! Tara again from Anything & Everything sharing a super easy DIY Christmas Decorations.  My Marquee Star made with paint stir sticks! I always seem to have an abundance of paint sticks laying around wasting space, so I finally took action and made something fun and unique with them! With just some paint, and a string lights my Marquee Star was born!

What you will need:

  • 5 paint stirring sticks
  • paint
  • wood glue
  • tacky glue
  • string of clear lights

It all started with just a few paint stirring sticks!

I first started off by painting the wood stick with some acrylic paint in a pretty gold shimmer color.

Once the paint was completely dry, I glued them together in the shape of a star with wood glue.

I made sure the wood glue was completely dry before I started the next process. Once the glue was dry, then I taped the clear string of lights to the back where I wanted them placed.

Then I drilled holes where I wanted the lights, stuck the lights in, and placed some tacky glue around them to make them stay in place.

Once the glue was dry then I taped down the string of lights so that they wouldn’t show through when it is hanging on the wall or where ever it might be that I decide to put it. That’s it! My Marquee Star was complete in a matter of a few hours! Love how it turned out, and how simple and cheap it was to make! Perfect accent piece to add to my Holiday decor!
