You’ve probably come to realize by now that I love everything pretty and girly. Luckily for me, I ended up with two girls, so I get to throw all sorts of fun birthday parties. We’ve had everything from Minnie Mouse to Cupcake Fairy for Riley’s birthday parties so far. Avery turned one recently, and I tried to stay within reason for her party. I swear, I really did try. We had a Fairy First Birthday that was complete with a highchair tutu and some gorgeous Tulle Pom Poms. These Pom Poms are SO easy to make, and they work great as favor toppers or even strung in a garland. Let me show you just how simple they truly are.
Tulle Pom Poms Tutorial
Nothing brings greater pleasure than doing little projects to make your kids happy. So, let’s start with the basics you’ll need to do this DIY task.
Grab a roll of tulle and a pair of scissors. Yes, that’s all, believe it or not. If you’re wondering how to make tulle pom poms, go ahead and follow this simple guide.
You start out by cutting off a strand of tulle that is about 10 inches long and set that aside. I wanted smallish pom poms so I decided to use the width of my hand. You can also use a book depending upon the size of the pom pom that you’re looking for.
Wrap the tulle around your hand 20 times. This is made much easier if you let the spool of tulle drop to the ground so that you can just quickly wrap it around your hand. Cut the tulle so it is no longer connected to the spool and slip your hand out of the wrapping. Be sure to keep the tulle as if your hand is still inside of it, though.
Take the 10-inch piece of tulle and wrap the center of the pom pom with it. You want to tie this tight because it’ll be the focus of your new pom pom. It should look like a bow. Don’t worry about making the strip the length of the rest of the pieces, because you’ll give your pom poms a “haircut” as the final step of the process.
Cut each end of the tied tulle so that the ends are no longer folded or attached. It’s easiest to cut them all at once and then go back through if you missed any loops.
Once you’ve cut both sides, you’ll end up with an uneven ball of tulle. In order to make these into the perfect pom poms, poof them out and then give each pom pom a “haircut.” That’s really how simple—and fun—this tulle pom pom DIY project is!
For Avery’s birthday party, I used these tulle pom poms in multiple ways. I used them as toppers for the party favor, which was glitter playdough. I also used them to make Fairy Wands, which I’ll be sharing next week. They came out super cute and were inspired by my Magic Wands that I made for Riley’s Cupcake Fairy Birthday.
FAQs
How Do I Make Large Pom Poms?
The DIY large tulle pom poms process is the same as the one I described above.
When you need larger sizes, make things easier by preparing a cardboard circle as big as you need the pom poms to be. Wrap the tulle around the edges of the circle just like I did with my hand, following the diameter.
Cut another circle in the center so that you can tie the tulle in the middle. Wrap things up by cutting the parts of the fabric at the edges of the circle. And voila! Your cute, big pom poms are done! Fluff them up, and you’re ready to go.
How Can I Fix Wrinkly Pom Poms Made From Tulle?
Tulle is such a wrinkly material that it can be so hard to handle. No, worries, though; there is a way to take care of this without too much effort.
All you’ll need is an iron and a towel. Start by separating all the pieces of tulle to make sure they are not intertwined. Next, set your iron to the lowest setting. Finally, place the towel over each piece of tulle that you iron, and you’re done in no time.
The towel will protect the material, which is important because it’s easy to damage the tulle. If you have a steam machine at home, even better.
How Can I Wash These Pom Poms?
Now that the party is over, you’re left with cake-stained pom poms that you want to use again. Now the question stands whether you can wash them before storing them.
Yes, although tulle is a very gentle fabric, you can still wash it with a lot of care. The safest option is hand-washing with mild detergent and cool water. First, let them soak for at least 10 minutes before rinsing them off. Don’t squeeze tightly, and don’t rub.
When you don’t have enough time on your hands to hand-wash, set your washing machine to a low water temperature. Place the pom poms made from tulle in a garment bag, and that’s pretty much it.
Don’t ever use the clothes dryer, though. Instead, let the pom poms dry on a towel or in a well-ventilated space.
Conclusion
These pom poms are not only the cutest things ever, but they are also so affordable to make. Even the busiest moms can spare half an hour of their time to make these pretty decorations for a baby shower, birthday party, or themed kids’ party, or even to use them to make a pom pom holiday wreath.
The tutorial is so easy to follow, for both small and large pom poms. You can also include your little ones in the process and have a creative day full of fun.

Can you please tell me or share a link on how to make bigger tulle pom poms?

Wrap it around something bigger than your hand.....
storage
A gas cushion is required in this type of storage to
assist delivery rates. Of course, the more memory they are capable of
storing, the more expensive the drive. Since self storage comes in a variety of small and large sizes, you only pay for the space you
actually need and use.
