Cupcake’s Birthday Sign

December 1, 2012 by Jenny Melrose

Riley’s birthday party was an absolute success!  She had tons of fun and I think the guests had just as much.  I’m certainly pooped.  I promise to share her party with all of you, but I’m in the process of editing the photos.  So, I thought I’d show the sign that greeted all of the guests as they entered her party.  If you missed her Cupcake Centerpieces, you’ll notice there’s a distinct theme all inspired by Riley’s favorite story, Camilla, the Cupcake Fairy.

I started off with 1/2 inch thick plywood that was leftover from my nephew’s Plane, Train & Truck Wall Art.  I painted the plywood with two coats of white acrylic paint.  Once the paint was dry I used washi tape to give it a finished look.  I then free-handed a cupcake liner in pencil to have an idea of how large to cut a piece of scrapbook paper for the liner.

I glued down the scrapbook paper with an Elmer’s glue stick.  I used green tissue paper as the frosting for the cupcake.  I then hot glued the crumpled pieces of tissue paper down and filled in the frosting.  The finishing touch for the cupcake was a red bead as the cherry on top, which I hot glued on top of the tissue paper.

I used my paint pens to write out, “Cupcake’s Birthday”.  Joe drilled two holes on either side of the wood so that I could add a ribbon to hang the sign.  I loved having the ribbon tied in a bow in the front.  It gave an added girly flair.  The best part of the sign is that I’ll be able to put it up every year, regardless of the theme.

Thanks so much! My almost 3 year old helped with the painted and gluing so she loved it even more.
