I’m a thirty-something mom with two little girls that can’t get over how summers have changed from carefree to safety-conscious over the last thirty years. I vividly remember running through the neighborhood with no shoes, no cares and minimal supervision except my mom peaking through the window to check to make sure we were in the neighbor’s backyard. I’m barely comfortable letting my girls go in our fenced-in backyard to play by themselves. Times have just changed so much! Did you all see the video of the teenager that was standing next to her mom when a man tried to abduct her yesterday? We live in a very crazy world.

How Summers have Changed from Carefree to Safety-Conscious
My girls are still little at six and three years old, but I can remember playing all day outside at the neighbor’s house at six years old. We lived on a quiet street where I used to run across the street and knock on the neighbor’s door to see if the neighbors could come out to play. We would play wiffle ball, cops and robbers and tag well into the night. I remember summers as the best time of the year and I looked forward to it all year long.
Nowadays I feel as if I have to be super safety-conscious with my girls. Everything from understanding that they can’t just go out front and play to loading them up with the “right” sunscreen has me constantly on my toes. I feel like I’m always second-guessing myself when it comes to their safety. This isn’t even taking into consideration all the times that I’m second guessing myself about how I am raising them. Whether or not their values will be of strong, independent young women who are caring and compassionate. Being a mother is a constant worry session so I’m vowing to keep it simpler this summer so that these smiling faces continue to smile.
Last summer we took the girls to a water park. It was so much fun, but absolutely exhausting. My youngest is a dare devil and wants to do everything that my oldest can do. With three and half years between them this is just not possible and results in my husband’s or my head spinning as we try to keep up with both of them from potty breaks to sunscreen to safely swimming. Luckily, we went to the water park with my mom last summer so we outnumbered the girls. This summer I’m keeping it simple and they love it. I forget how easy it is to please them. We set up an H2OGO! Color Wave™ Pool and the girls were in heaven.
Every turn down the slide resulted in a smile like that. They played in the inflatable Color Wave™ Pool for hours. My youngest practiced her swimming, while my oldest decided that our plastic playground would be the perfect water slide. The pool is over 9ft. long and has LED color changing lights that make night time swims an absolute blast. Plus, with extra-wide sidewalls for safety and durability, I can relax a bit. Having the inflatable kids pool in the backyard makes my safety meter definitely dip down a bit to an almost carefree point.
We want to help your safety meter dip down so we’re giving away a Color Wave™ Pool to one of you. Simply leave me a comment telling me who would use the pool and their age. I will randomly choose a winner on Sunday, June 12th.
So, who would use the Color Wave™ Pool and how old are they?
