As I’ve stated in previous posts, the living space that we have is clutter free. Consequently, our closets are a bit of a disaster. The last couple of weeks I’ve been determined to make the closets clutter free as well. The closet you are about to see is used daily because we use it as our mud room/pantry/toy storage area. The closet is downstairs and is actually underneath our stairs so the space is slanted an irregular shape, but if used properly it works great. I’ve tried multiple times to organize this room so you’ll see it in multiple phases. Here goes!
This is the view from the doorway. We hung the coats to the left on hooks, but they clearly block the two shelves that we installed for storage. The shoe rack contains shoes that are not worn daily.
The upper shelf was used as a pantry. There are paper products and canned goods strew about. The second shelf has odds and ends of games for Riley.
To the right of the shelf is where the ceiling starts to slant down. This is where the majority of Riley’s toys end up.
Seriously, a disaster!
This was after I tried tidying up the shelves. I cleaned up the canned goods by sorting them according to the type of good that they were. I also tried to get my husband to fold up the blankets nice and neat onto the shelf, but I think that lasted for about a minute.
The shoes were a cinch to clean up.
These are the toys cleaned up. Help! Clearly not working!
The next two pictures were after a week of being organized. Like I said it was for about a minute that the organization lasted.
Here’s the closet cleaned out and the coat hooks moved over to the other side of the wall at a height that Riley can reach.
Clearly in need of a face lift.
The first you thing you need to take note of is the color change. Holy moly that closet needed a coat or two of paint. I used the leftover paint from our kitchen. We also added in a third shelf. The lower shelf holds toys for Riley as well as the camera and camcorder in easy reach. The second shelf has the canned goods. The third and final shelf has the party supplies.
Next to the shelf is my husband’s favorite addition, a basket. This way all he has to do is roll his blanket up in a ball at night, rather than having to neatly fold it.
Riley’s ATV, and two doll strollers and towards the back of the closet where the slant of the stairs comes down.
My favorite addition is the coat hooks at Riley’s height. Oh, and how cute is that minnie mouse raincoat? You should see her in it. Ah-dorable!
