One of my favorite things about blogging is when I have a duh, why didn’t I think of that moment. I recently had one when it came to our outdoor tool storage. We live in a condo complex, which means that we have common areas outside. We have a patio though and Joe landscaped the area around the patio. Consequently, we have shovels, rakes, brooms, a tamper and other odds and ends. Unfortunately, we don’t have anywhere to store these items. While at a recent link party I saw An Old File Cabinet into a Garage Storage Favorite that peeked my interest. I had an old dingy two drawer filing cabinet that I knew would work perfectly for this little project of mine.
I started out by giving this thing a good, ole fashioned scrubbing. Cobwebs and coffee stains were my nemesis.
I wanted to add a little flair to the cabinet so I used painters tape to put a chevron stripe on all three solid sides.
I then spray painted the entire thing. The first can I used was Krylon and it did not work very well. I had a ton of drips. The second coat and second can was Rust-oleum and it worked much better. Riley chose the green again, but I was happy with it because it worked with our outdoor patio.
When I pulled off the tape my chevron stripe was there. Unfortunately, the corners ran a bit and I’m pretty sure it was from the Krylon brand.
I love it when a simple item because an organizational piece that I don’t know how I survived without.
As you can see Riley has also added her golf clubs to the filing cabinet tool storage.
