Preheat oven to 350°F and butter a medium-sized baking dish.
If using frozen cherries, thaw and drain. Place the cherries in a medium-sized container and add 1 tablespoon of sugar.
Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of almond-flavored liqueur (if desired) or gently press the cherries to release the remaining liquid. Toss and set aside.
Place the top oven rack in the center position and preheat your oven to 350°F.
In a blender, combine eggs, milk, vanilla extract, almond extract, flour, and the rest of the sugar. Pulse until just foamy.
Arrange the cherries in the baking dish you greased earlier. Pour the batter over them and sprinkle with almonds.
Bake for 40 to 45 minutes. Cool for 15 minutes and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
