I received a copy of 101 Kids Activities for my review. My opinions are 100% my own!
I long for Summer every single year and then once it's here I feel like I start planning for Fall almost weeks into vacation. It's a little crazy. I believe it all stems from the fact that for me Fall is kind of like my new year. It gives me a clean slate at school and new slew of students to work with, which is a challenge and a blessing all at once. There is one thing that I undeniably love about Fall though and that's APPLES. I've created everything from muffins to cupcakes to pies that include apples in them. This time I was absolutely inspired by the fabulous book 101 Kids Activities from Holly Homer & Rachel Miller. They have an Edible Playdough recipe that got me thinking about my love of Fall. We created an Apple Cinnamon Playdough that is edible and smells amazing!
Apple Cinnamon Playdough
My favorite part about the playdough was definitely the smell. I swear you could use it as an air freshener. It was just that good. Plus, this apple cinnamon playdough recipe comes from 2 ingredients. All you need is apple sauce and ground cinnamon! You'll need ½ cup of apple sauce and ½ cup of ground cinnamon. Who doesn't have those on hand?!
Riley was thrilled that this was a recipe that she could be involved in. We've made playdough recipes in the past, Sparkle Playdough, that required cooking. This one there isn't even any cooking involved! All you have to do is pour the ingredients into a large {gallon} ziploc bag and mix the ingredients through the bag.
Once the dough is mixed in the bag, you can pull it out and go to town on it. Riley can be a little obsessive about getting her hands dirty. She was that kid at daycare that didn't like to finger paint because she didn't want her hands dirty. She's gotten so much better about it, but this playdough was perfect for her. The consistency wasn't too hard for her to mold and it didn't leave a residue on her hands after she rolled it out.
Riley is also a little girl that learns extremely well when all of her senses are being used so the fact that this playdough definitely ignited her olfactory senses was a huge plus. She couldn't stop talking about picking apples in the fall and then making them into pies as gifts for our neighbors. She is one smart and sweet little girl and I am often blown away by her genuine zest for life and the people that are a part of it.
This was only one of the activities that I tried out with Riley as well as with my students in summer school. They absolutely loved the Book Bridge Building, which worked perfectly for our Bridge Unit of study for the summer session. You can grab your own copy of 101 Kids Activities by clicking here. Also be sure to check out Holly & Rachel's site, Kids Activities Blog, for more inspiring activities to keep the kiddos busy year round.

This may be a silly question, but can this be reused? And if so, I would imagine it would have to be put in the fridge to store right? Thanks! 🙂
