If you are the kind of person who likes DIY stuff, then you are probably always on sites like Pinterest looking for new ideas that you can make right from the things in your home. Some of the most common and attractive DIY craft ideas incorporate one tried and true item in particular: the mason jar.

There are tons of creative things that you can do with a mason jar. Mason jar crafts are stylish, fun, and versatile. From making a candle holder to flower vases as table centerpieces for weddings, all of these are possible with mason jars.

As it's hard to even think of all the mason jar DIY craft possibilities, I've dedicated this page to be the ULTIMATE resource for all things mason jar! From decorations to gifts, I've compiled a TON of mason jar ideas in this article and of course I've tried them all myself. I love them all, and hope you will too.

Mason Jar Crafts: Easy and Inexpensive DIY Craft Ideas

There are tons of ways you can make use of a mason jar. For instance, you can plant in it or use it for toiletries, for desserts, and for drinks, and many more.
Below, we have listed some of the top DIY craft ideas that will not only make the most out of those mason jars but are also easy to do.

Mason Jar Bathroom Ideas

There are surprisingly several bathroom decoration ideas that can be well accomplished with a mason jar. Let us share with you a few of them that you may find useful.

1. Mason Jar Soap Dispenser

mason jar soap dispenser

In just a few steps, you can turn an old mason jar easily into a soap dispenser or a lotion dispenser. All you need to do is follow our easy instructions.

Materials Needed:
  • Mason jar with lid
  • Glue
  • Pump from an old bottle of lotion or soap
  • Wire cutters
  • X-Acto knife

Instructions:
  • Begin by making a small hole on the lid right at the center. Do this with the help of the X-Acto knife.
  • Slowly make the hole bigger with a screwdriver or the wire cutters, just big enough to fit the pump with the lid. It may not be a perfect circle, but that is fine.
  • Use a hammer or the bottom of the screwdriver to flatten all of the pointy and sharp pieces of the lid.
  • Glue the lid to the mason jar (assuming you are using a two-piece lid), and let it dry for a few minutes.
  • Put the pump through the hole you made and then apply glue on the inside around the base so that it forms a seal.
  • Now, you can fill the jar with lotion or soap to use it.

2. Mason Jar Tissue Holder

If you are trying to eliminate packaging in your house as much as possible, then you will certainly like this Mason Jar Tissue Holder idea. Not only is it easy to do, but it is also very stylish.

Materials Needed:
  • Wide mouth mason jars
  • X-Acto knife
  • Scissors
  • Scrapbook paper
  • Tissues (we recommend using Kleenex as they are a perfect fit and are already made in a way that they can be put in a cylinder-shaped container)
Instructions:
  • Trace a circle on the scrapbook paper by using the jar’s lid as a guide and then cut it. For this, we recommend using a paper with an attractive design.
  • Once you have the circle, make an X on it right at the center with the X-Acto knife.
  • Remove the tissues from the packaging, fold, and put them in the jar.
  • Pull up the center tissue through the X you made on the paper, and then screw back the lid ring.
  • Make the jar look more attractive by painting it with whatever pattern you like.

Should you use a large mason jar or a small mason jar for these cupcakes?

It's really up to you but my personal preference is to use a small mason jar to keep them the perfect size for entertaining.

Other Cupcake in a Jar Recipes

Can you see how easy this whole process is? You can try out various cake recipes in a mason jar. I also have an excellent Strawberry Cupcake recipe, which I suggest you check out.

Apple Pie in a Jar

apple pie in a jar with ribbon and spoon

If you're familiar with my blog, then you know about my obsession with all things apple (Apple Pie Bites &  Apple Pie Cupcakes).  Well this Apple Pie in a Jar Recipe is a snap to put together and super yummy. It's a great gift for neighbors or friends.

For the ingredients, I used the same exact recipe as my Mini Apple Pies Recipe. The only difference is that I divided up the crust, filling and topping into the six different small mason jars to make my Apple Pie in a Jars. I added a cute ribbon with a sparkly Christmas ornament and a spoon. Enjoy!

Mason Jar Christmas Gifts

Tired of the same old gifting ideas? Then why don’t you try out mason jar gifts this Christmas?

Using mason jars as a gift is easy, creative, and inexpensive. Below, we will list some of the easy ways you can use it as a gift. Below are some of my favorite mason jar crafts for Christmas

1. Christmas Cookie Recipe Gift

Christmas Cookie Recipe in a Mason Jar

This is one of my favorite Christmas Gifts and so easy to put together! In order to package the sugar cookie mix, I used small, pint size mason jars and split the Pillsbury Sugar Cookie Mix into three mason jars.

On my gift tags I give the instructions to combine the cookie mix with one egg and ¾ stick of butter. I also give my royal icing recipe on the tag.

The icing recipe is super simple it's just the following:

  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons meringue powder
  • 6 tablespoons water

The best part about this mason jar idea is that you can use any recipe that you like so if you have a family favorite sugar cookie recipe just put the dry mix into your packaging and provide the extra ingredients needed. I also packaged my Christmas Cookie Recipe with a cookie cutter and a sleigh bell in the middle.

2. Mason Jar Sewing Kit

Sewing kits are always typically gifted in an unattractive box or bag, which most of us end up losing. So, if you are looking to gift someone a sewing kit, why don’t you try a mason jar instead? It is extremely easy to make and look fantastic.

Let’s talk about how you can create one.

Materials Needed:

  • A mason jar
  • Sewing pins and needles
  • Safety pins
  • Thread spools of different colors
  • Tiny pair of scissors
  • Needle threader
  • Measuring tape for cloth
  • A pincushion that is sized to the lid
Instructions:

Making a mason jar sewing kit does not really need much effort. Gently stuff all of the materials inside the mason jar. Next, glue the pincushion on top of the lid, and then tie it up with a ribbon or a rustic twine along with a personalized label.

3. Mason Jar Shimmer Candles

If you want to gift someone something related to candles, then mason jar shimmer candles are an interesting way to go about it. These are easy to make and are able to produce beautiful and sparkling results. You can also use these candles as Mason Jar Centerpieces!

Materials Needed:

• A mason jar
• Mod Podge
• Epsom salt
• Rubbing alcohol
• Extra fine glitter in the color of your choice
• Spray adhesive
• Lint-free rags
• Flat-head and small paint brush

Instructions:
  • Begin by cleaning the mason jar with the rubbing alcohol and the lint-free rags. Do this from the inside and outside, and leave it to dry for some time.
  • Cover the entire interior of the mason jar with mod podge with the help of the brush.
  • Now, there are different ways you can go about this. You can drop Epsom salt inside the jar and swirl it around so that it covers the whole jar. Then, remove the excess.
  • Leave it to dry overnight and then add some more Epsom salt only at the bottom. You can place a candle inside the jar now, and this will look amazing
  • Alternatively, you can also do this with fine glitter. Simply spray adhesive inside the mason jar. Fill it with an adequate amount of glitter and swirl it around so that it covers the entire jar. Remove the excess.
  • You can now place a candle inside, and this will look beautiful. You can also be innovative with this DIY idea by adding your own personal touch to it.

Mason Jar Gifts for other holidays

Mason Jar Easter Ideas

bunny tail mix in a mason jar and bowl

A while back I discovered these absolutely adorable bunny tails on Amazon and just couldn’t resist them. As a result, I decided that it was only appropriate to create a mason jar bunny filled with Bunny Tail Mix for our Easter celebration this year.

The ears are made from white and pink craft foam that I cut out according to the size that I thought was appropriate to stand up over the edge of the mason jar. The white portion of the ears are about 6″ tall and the pink is 4″. I then attached the pink within the white of the ears using glue.

Simple and easy here. I used tulle to tie the ears onto the mason jar. I easily could have glued the ears to the top of the mason jar, but I like being able to use mason jars over again. Although, I usually buy them as a set of 12 like this one because I use them for everything!

The finishing touch was attaching the bunny tail, which was a cinch because of the alligator clip.  I simply attached it to the tulle in the back.  How cute right?!

Below is the recipe for the bunny tail mix

Mason Jar Gifts for Him

mason jar gifts with santa house

Gifts in a mason jar are not just for women. There are many DIY gift ideas that would be perfect even for a man. This can be a birthday gift, a groomsman gift, and many more.

1. Mini Bar in a Mason Jar

A miniature bar is always well received by anyone who likes to drink. All you need to do is get small bottles of your man’s favorite liquor. These are available at most liquor stores.

After acquiring tiny liquor bottles, fit as many as you can inside a mason jar. You can personalize it by adding a note too. This is a popular gift idea among women as well.

2. Pork Rub in a Mason Jar

If your man is the kind who likes to grill every now and then, then a pork rub in a mason jar is a fantastic gift idea. Your man will most definitely be thrilled to receive this very practical gift that he will end up using right away.

With this, you can either just gift him pork rub on its own or make it a part of a larger gift consisting of grilling accessories and more.

3. Grooming Jar

Men like to be pampered too. To show that you care, fill a mason jar with a collection of travel-sized grooming products such as a scrub, aftershave, razor, and more. Give it to him as a gift, and we’re sure that he will appreciate it.

Some Tips & Resources

Where can I buy Mason Jars?

Mason Jars are actually quite easy to come by. I often see them for sale in bulk at Walmart or Target. Additionally, I almost always find them at garage sales or second hand stores. These are great places to look and find a good deal. Of course you can order them online too, but as they are heavy & made of glass, it might not be prudent to do so.

Conclusion

I hope this roundup post gives you everything you need and more related to DIY mason jar gifts and crafts. Each of these projects is easy to make and is very practical. We are confident that you and your loved one will enjoy these mason jar craft ideas!
