I feel as if I have been planning Riley’ birthday party since October and it has come and gone. I do have to say that this is the first time I planned and executed everything and it was well worth it. We had a fabulous time with family and friends. We are so thankful for all the people in our lives that absolutely adore our little girl. I say “little girl” because she is no longer my baby (tear!). She is little miss independent if I do say so myself. Riley’s party was inspired by her love of Minnie Mouse. I scoured the internet for inspiration and made some great finds. I used pinterest to keep track of my pictures of inspiration. I also searched youtube for various videos to help with decorating. My greatest triumph was the food, which was definitely what I spent the most time on. I decided on oreo minnies, sugar cookie minnies, caramel apple minnies, minnie cupcakes and cake and zebra caramel pretzels. The cake had me extremely nervous, since it was my first time working with fondant, but it came out great and actually tasted great too. I relied heavily on Michaels and Hobby Lobby for decorations. All of the decorations were handmade by myself and the help of my mom. We made minnie mouse ears, minnie mouse centerpieces, pom poms that hung from the ceiling, a birthday banner, a tutu for Riley’s high chair and Pin the Bow on Minnie Mouse game.
This was my first attempt with fondat and I thought it came out well. It has two tiers an 8 inch and 6 inch cakes, which were crumb coated with buttercream frosting. I made the bows out of fondant and gum paste. The ears are rice krispies covered in fondant.

Here’s a full picture of the snack table. The banner says Happy 2nd Birthday and was handmade as were the pom poms hanging from the ceiling.
These were so fun to make. The cupcake is covered with buttercream frosting and topped with a fondant bow and finished with mini oreo ears.
Minnie Mouse Cupcakes
These were also quick and easy to make, but also fun. These are double stuffed oreos with mini oreo ears attached with buttercream frosting and finished with a buttercream bow.

I don’t ususally like sugar cookies, but these were delicious. The frosting is Royal icing.

The zebra pretzels are covered with caramel then covered with white chocolate and drizzled with chocolate at the end.
I loved the idea of the minnie mouse caramel apples, but these were a royal pain in the you know what. These probably took a total of six hours to make. Crazy!

I got this idea from an etsy store and decided to google how to make a tutu. It was so simple! There is no sewing involved and I can turn it into another tutu for Riley to wear now.
The Minnie Mouse centerpieces were easy as well. I took multiple ideas from pinterest and made what worked for me. The minnie head is a styrofoam ball pained with black spray paint. I attached the ears and bow with hot glue. The name and number stick were made using card stock and Microsoft Power Point. The buckets are from Hobby Lobby which I bought off the internet from there.
Minnie Mouse Topiary
The Minnie Mouse Ears were handmade and would have made me a great cat burglar the next day. I literally burnt off my fingertips attaching the bows. The necklaces, bracelets, and sunglasses were for the guests and went home with the guests as their favor.
Behind Aidan you might be able to see the Pin the Bow on Minnie game. I drew this and then had foam bows for the kids to pin onto her. Brenna was our winner since no one else was blindfolded.
My beautiful birthday girl in her birthday dress. The only “cheese” I got all day on camera.
Aidan wearing his Mickey Mouse ears.
Riley sporting her Minnie Mouse ears.
Grandpa being a great sport and ham for the camera.
We tried to take away her cupcake after she licked off all the frosting, but she wouldn’t let us touch it.
Jesse enjoying his cupcake, which I later got yelled at for at his birthday party the next day because it was one of three desserts he ate, which equaled no nap!
Riley and her adoring daddy!
Riley’s party was well worth the planning and work that went into it. We had a fabulous birthday weekend!
